Tom Finder
I read the story called “Tom Finder”. The story is about a boy name Tom who finds himself on the streets of Calgary and having no memory of who he is. Tom is a thin tall teenager approximately 14/15 years old. He is nice, a good runner and swimmer. He forgets things like his address, last name, who his parents are, where he attends school and some of his friends. Losing your memory would be difficult because it is losing everything you’ve learn throughout your life. Tom seemed to just look on the bright side, make the best of things and go with the flow.
The only thing Tom remembered was his name. Tom would always say Tom, Tom, Tom as he walked so, he wouldn’t forget his name. He did this because he always thought he was invisible to others.
After Tom lost his memory, he always wondered where he came from, if he was rich or poor or who he really was. Losing everything you’ve known was really hard for Tom.
Tom went for a walk one night to try and figure things out and nearly got mugged. Tom meets a man named Samuel Wolfsleg. Samuel is a native American who lost his son and told Tom he was a “finder” and he could help find Samuel’s son Daniel. Samuel told Tom this was the only way that Tom could get his memory back. Tom was kind of unsure about Samuel calling him a “finder”. Tom later thought he was a finder and that’s how Tom Finder got his name.
Daniel Wolfsleg was a drug addict. Samuel always new that Daniel was a a strong fighter which is why Samuel never gave up hope in finding Daniel. He always knew that one day Daniel will come home one day.
While looking for Daniel and trying to find out who Tom was, Tom found some money and rented a billboard in hopes that his parents would recognize him.
Tom also went to a music store and got sick while listening to Mozart. He knew that his past has something to do with Mozart.
Tom tried to get a job writing for a newspaper company. Tom met a guy named Pepsi who told Tom to go to the shelter at night because that’s where Daniel can usually be found.
Pepsi is a drug addict and he is very sick from all the drugs.
Tom went to the shelter and was told that Daniel hadn’t been there in a long time. Tom met a girl named Pam who told Tom he might be at another house in town, so Tom goes there.
Tom then goes to a Police station to try and find out any information he can on his parents, who he is or where he is from. Tom gets very confused and wonders why things in his past are not coming back to him.
While Tom was looking for Daniel, he found a job outdoors. He almost got beaten up by a member of a gang. He learnt that he shouldn’t judge someone on what they have to do in life to survive, to treat everyone with respect and find out who they truly are as a person.
Tom then visited the spaghetti factory and found out more about the people that have been through there. He found he has a hard time relating to them because Tom believes he had the perfect family and he is just lost.
Tom met a girl named Pam at the shelter. Pam is a high school student. She went from house to house and sleeps on people’s couches. She has a boyfriend who is very abusive. Tom told Pam that he was attracted to her which got Tom being badly beaten up.
Tom went to the opera and started to regain his memory. He realized everything he thought he knew was anything but real. He then got trapped in a factory and almost died but he was saved by Daniel.
Tom reunited Daniel with his father Samuel. He decided he was going to write a book about all the people he met throughout his journey.
Tom was taught many lessons in the story. This is what I think the lessons that Tom learner re.
The main lesson I believe Tom learnt was to never give up. I think that Tom learned this
lesson from Samuel because Samuel never gave up on finding his son because Samuel knew Daniel was a strong person.
One day Tom found Daniel in a building that was on fire. Daniel didn’t want to go back to
