Sports Update November 2007
The month of November was very successful for Leeds Met sports. Each Wednesday Leeds Met has been racking up wins in every sport while most of the teams stand alone at the top of their respective table. The Carnegie tradition can be seen throughout the campus and beyond letting people know that Leeds Met stands for excellence in sport. Come out and show your support on Wednesday's, you are sure to see some exciting and intense matches.
Intramural sport has also been heating up at Leeds Met. The Kirkstall Brewery 11 a-side football team captained by Neil Conchie and Iain Usher have been leading this surge. The team is currently top of the table and collecting victories each week. Come down and check them out on Wednesday's at the Adel Bedquilt pitches. Matches start at 1 p.m. every week.
This month was the time for the annual Sports Scholarship Award Night which took place at Headingley Carnegie Stadium. The top athletes selected from each sport received their scholarships in front of a number of distinguished guests. Each scholar is recognised as having the potential and dedication to become a world-class performer in their sport. The scholarship is designed to aid the athlete in their day to day lives, as they often have to undertake extensive training in order to maintain and develop their high level of performance.
Tracey Neville, sister of England football internationals Gary and Phillip, who has represented the England Netball side in over 70 tests, was among the guests present at the Ceremony. Tracey gave a talk on her achievements and experiences at the top level of sport and also fielded questions from the scholars and guests.
