Entertainment Essay

Entertainment has provided society with an escape from reality, which at times may be very stressful and chaotic. The relaxation that entertainment provides is necessary for the overall well being of people. Peace and accord can be found through relaxation, and for many people this is achieved through entertainment. Some entertainment may be damaging to society because it is degrading, and lacks cultural enrichment. As a result, I qualify the assertion that entertainment has conquered reality. I agree in the sense that as the quality of entertainment has declined, so too has the richness of society. I disagree in the sense that entertainment provides society with a diversion from reality, which gives people a respite from the daily anxiety in peoples' lives.

The music industry has become very competitive and sometimes this results in violence between feuding musical groups. Profanity can be ubiquitously found throughout the movie and music industry. In music, people express their emotions, which usually tends to be anger. The anger is intensified though their use of profane language. The music and movie industries have ratings systems in order to ensure the maturity level of the audience is appropriate. These precautions may prevent some corruption; however for the most part, these preventative measures are futile because children still have easy access to music and movies that are too mature for them. Entertainment also insists that women be slim and if they are not, then they are unattractive. Entertainment degrades women and does not take into consideration their inner beauty. Entertainment has most certainly had a negative affect on society.

Entertainment is also beneficial because it provides a release from reality. It is important that people have a respite from their daily life. Entertainment also helps people gain more knowledge and it clarifies historical events. The History Channel focuses on accurately depicting
