Title: Experiment 8.4 : Environmental Factors and Their Effect on Radish Leaf Color

Purpose: The purpose of experiment 8.4 is to observe an effect that the environment has on a phenotype.

Materials:

60 radish seeds

2 dishes

Potting soil

Clear plastic wrap

Cabinet to put dish into

Water

Procedure:

Label one dish “light” and the other dish “dark”

Place soil in each dish and then add water until the soil is wet

Spread 30 seeds across the top of each dish and cover the dish with clear plastic wrap

Place both dishes in a warm place where there is sunlight, but not direct sunlight

Put one dish into the cabinet so that light will not get in

Check the dishes each available day

Add water when soil starts drying

Watch for the seeds to sprout. When half of the seeds have sprouted, begin examining them each day.

Fill in the results from the observations in the table of the data section. Do this each available day.

Clean up and return everything back to the proper place

Results:

*See Table 8.4 for the results of both dishes
