ESPN: ONE OF THE GREATS.
Many of today's newest technologies evolve around the media. It all about what the consumers (you and me) want. We want sports. That's all there is to it, the American people want some way that we can catch a glimpse of what the world has to offer in the field of sports. Who isn't familiar with the name ESPN? Many have grown to anticipate the highlights of Sports Center, with Stuart Scott and Dan Patrick. Not only Sports Center but also, what about all the other products that ESPN has to offer like TV, and Radio, ESPN Zone, or ESPN the magazine. Everything that is remotely related to sports is branded with an ESPN logo next to or near it. Without it we as people would be lost forever in the world of sports as we know it.
Founded in 1979 with the modest intentions, Bill Rasmussen put money on some credit cards and started the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network. His intent was to broadcast University of Connecticut Huskies games to a larger viewing area using satellite dishes. Little did he know that ESPN would become a huge financial beast pitted against others only to dominate the competition.
In terms of marketing to the population, you see more and more of the four letters and the people who subside by it. The main marketing tool for ESPN is television. With multiple channels and countless Shows, ESPN has generated the biggest sports network in the world crushing anyone who is to come and challenge them. ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Deportes and many others have set the standard sports viewing television. Television shows such as powerhouse Sports Center and NFL Tonight have taken the American public by storm and created kind of a routine for viewers to tune it. Not only Television but radio to, now holding the largest sport-radio network with more than 700 affiliate stations, viewers can tune in and listen about there favorite sports team of there not so favorite
