There are many professions that can contribute to unethical behavior. Being a doctor and a sports athlete contribute a lot to unethical behavior. Being a doctor comes with many pros and cons. Doctors saves live everyday or just helps lives be better. There is a lot of pressure that come from being a doctor which can lead to unethical behavior. In a study it shows people that study to be a doctor it shows that they are all are under pressure which leads to unethical behavior. One example of the unethical behavior included not telling a patient he had lung cancer because the team of physicians didn't know what type of cancer it was. In another example, a student was left to close a wound on a patient even though the student wasn't sure how. (British Medical Journal). Now for the doctor that was presented in our ethical scrapbook part 1. He acted unethical in many cases. Samuel Bracken, Jr. dealt with more than just pressure. He also had issues that lead to unethical behavior. He was a professional doctor caught molesting a 15 year old boy. Now as a professional that is unethical as well as a human being. Its just not something we as people should do or even want to do. Pressure plays a role but also unknown or known illness is involved. Also just the fact of being a doctor getting to your head. “With great power comes great responsibility” Thats a good saying. Power gets to the head of people and alos leads to unethical behavior as a doctor. For an example doctors sometimes will perform certain things without persmission and could end up killing a patient. Prime example is Comedian Joan Rivers. Rivers visited an endoscopy clinic late last month for a scheduled endoscopy. An endoscopy involves the insertion of a camera down the throat, and was intended to diagnose Rivers’ sore throat and hoarse voice. It was performed under general anesthesia.
After the endoscopy was performed, a biopsy of Rivers’ vocal cords was done without her prior consent by the comedian’s personal doctor, according to a source. Under law, the doctor was not certified by the clinic to perform such a biopsy. Investigators believe that during the unauthorized biopsy, her vocal cords began to swell, which cut off the flow of oxygen to her lungs, which led to cardiac arrest. She was rushed to a New York hospital a mile away, where she died a week later. In addition to the unauthorized medical procedure being performed without the patient’s consent, a staff member told investigators that the doctor took a selfie with Rivers while she was under anesthesia.(Liberty Law). Sometime taking matters into our own hand can effect a lot to.
