Character Character is what a person does when no one else is around. Leaders must demonstrate strong character and exceptional behavior. Character is sometimes hard to judge. Judging good character one must look at accountability, trustworthy, and personality. In time all these traits will come out.
Humanity As a GM of a pro football team I after display humanity on a daily. By taking charge and doing good for the team I have played on several teams all over and have learned from some of the best coaches. What makes a person great is his ability to share his knowledge with his organization.
Personal Integrity Personal integrity is what you stand for as a coach, I have to lead by example. These are times when I mess up and I never try to hide it. I just try to fix it and go on. "If you never lose then you can never appreciate the victories." (Texas Coach, 2006, p. 14) If you always win your personal integrity will never be challenged.
Trustworthy By being an ex football player you have to be trustworthy. When you are on the field you have to know and depend on the man next to you. Without trust you will not be successful if you can not depend on the next man. Trustworthy is the key ingredient to a successful organization. As a team member we count on each team member to do his part. You are only as strong as your weakest leak. In the off season you count on each team member to work out and do his part. If not, you lose trust in him.
Moral Courage Living life means we have to make daily decisions. Moral courage means doing what I believe is right or wrong but at the end of the day I have to live
