Euphoria for Men
The ad for Calvin Klein's Euphoria fragrance has very many emotional appeals leading the consumer to an attractive male, gently being kissed by a seductive female. This ad uses sex, fantasy, and the need to be loved to sell a product. The ad speaks to men saying "buy me, and you too can have a sexual encounter with a beautiful woman, and your fantasies will all come true."
This particular advertisement for Euphoria plays on a person's psychological senses, mainly what is known as the affiliation need. This is the need for sex, affection, relationships, and the feeling of belonging to something, or in this case someone. Can you imagine a young man at the cologne counter in Macy's contemplating purchasing this particular cologne? His brain is thinking, "If I put this magic cologne on, the scent will drive women in my direction." Just in case some men can't imagine themselves doing that, the advertising company places ads like this in popular magazines, and goes a step further by telling you where to buy it. For example, in this ad, the information is located in the lower left hand corner; and if you lift the flap, you can smell the cologne's scent and know how much this cologne will cost.
One of the many tools that companies' use to sell products is to use attractive individuals such as models. Most of the models used in the advertisement industry, are what people in the general public believe to be sexy and are essentially perfect. The female and male in this advertisement follow what the general public sees as beautiful people. Even though the room is not completely dark, it appears that the woman has a blond tone to her hair, gently covering parts of her face, and you may be able to see from her side profile, she has a small, short nose, soft lips and has a slight oval shape to her face. She is beautiful! The male model has this same type of sex appeal. His hair is short, but neatly styled, he has that little bit of a mustache over his lip and some stubbly hair on is chin, to perhaps indicate that even though he looks young, he has a sense of maturity, and a kind of gruff appearance. His face has a perfect shape; the angle of his jaw has a square, masculine curve, a small forehead, his eyebrows well manicured. His eyes are closed, showing soft eyelashes, his nose is small, his lips are thin, and slightly parted. This man is gorgeous! These two models are beautiful people.
The name Euphoria in itself is a play on words. In Webster's Dictionary online, the meaning is "a feeling of well being." Another meaning of Euphoria is "mania,
