- Introduction
As we talk about evangelism, we first need to make sure that we know what Evangelism is?
Evangelism is the announcement, proclamation, and/or preaching of the gospel, the good news about Jesus Christ. Includes warning people about sin and the consequences of sin It includes an explanation of God’s remedy for sin
It includes the clear call to repent
- Foundations for successful Evangelism
We need A proper View of God
A. Jesus is the great treasure
If evangelism is proclaiming the good news, we really have to believe that it is good news. Mat 13:44
- We should want to please God and bring Him glory
We should live our lives focused on God and seeking to build up God’s kingdom. Matthew 6:33
Joh 4:23-24 2 Cor 5:9 1 Peter 4:11
One of the best ways that we can please God and bring Him glory and expand his Kingdom is by sharing the Gospel with the lost, seeing them saved thereby adding to the numbers of people worshipping and giving God glory.
- Make powerful worship a priority in our lives
“Powerful worship will energize you to witness. It changes the focus of attention from the opinions of self and others to the greatness of God and his intoxicating love. “ (Metzger pg 150)
- Fear of the Lord…. Hell is a real place
2 Cor 5:10-11 John 3:36
Do we really believe that, that many of those around us are going to hell? Paul is a man that really understood this. He had a reverent, holy fear of God. He knew that when God spoke, it would come to pass.
- The power to witness comes from the filling or baptism of the Holy Spirit
Acts 1:8 Acts 4:33
In Acts chapter 6 deacons were described as ‘filled with the Spirit’ and in several other places in Acts it describes people ‘filled with the Spirit’ and in these cases it describes them powerfully sharing the gospel.
“In other words, one could properly say that one who is filled with the Holy Spirit wins souls. One who does not win souls is not filled with the Holy Spirit. And all who win souls in any degree do it by some measure of the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Rice pg 129)
- Comes from overflow of the heart
Luke 6:45 2 Cor 5:14
“In the first days after my conversion, I felt that I would not be able to live any longer. Walking on the street, I felt a physical pain for every man and woman who passed by. It was like a knife in my heart, so burning was the question of whether or not he or she was saved. If a member of the congregation sinned, I would weep for hours. The longing for the salvation of all souls has remained in my heart and the Communists are not excluded from it.” (Wurmbrand pg 56)
- Jesus set the example and commanded us to go
