Ever After is a Cinderella movie with Drew Barrymore as Cinderella. Ever After is different because it is a more realistic version of Cinderella rather than some fantasy versions. Cinderella is named Danielle and referred to as cinder-bottom. Cinderella did not take such a passive role as the original, but was much more strong-willed and opinionated. One of her step-sisters was evil, and the other was kind. Like most Cinderella stories the step-mother was wicked. Cinderella intends to tell Prince Henry her true identity at the ball (at which he intended to propse), but before she can say anything her step-mother recognizes Danielle and exposes the truth in front of everyone. The Prince is enraged with Danielle and she runs away crying, leaving behind her glass slipper. When she returns home, Cinderella is sold into servanthood by her step-mother to a wicked man that lives far away in a castle. When confronted with sexual advances by her evil owner Cinderella defends herself with swordsmanship, and releases herself from his ownership.
