The Expendables 2
The Expendables 2 is at it again, bringing together a familiar team to go around the world laughing, drinking, and killing everything in sight. In the first scenes of the movie, Stallone, Statham, Lundgren, Schwarzenegger and their fellow mercenaries rescue a kidnapped Chinese billionaire, wiping out most of the population of Nepal as they shoot first and don't hang around for any question. The rest of the movie is about the same as the first 60 seconds; as they are blackmailed into working for top government agent Bruce Willis in a dangerous area of the Balkans and take on the Russian mafia. These Russian bandits are about to sell off a recently discovered stash of Soviet plutonium to the highest bidder.
I knew after the first two minutes this was unrealistic and more of five part comedy. The plot is basic at best, but the entertainment value is worth the price. There were some people in the audience that felt they were watching a classical Broadway show and did not see the amusement you had in this movie but they should have known better going into the theater. The movie had a bunch of one-liners, some bad ones, some laughs when it was supposed to be serious, but it was still an enjoyable comedy. The Expendables 2 is a shot of adrenaline straight in the heart and never lets up. Sylvester Stallone did a great job of getting chemistry to work with this rag-tag group of has-beens.
Some of the actors like Jason Statham, Terry Crews, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, and Jet Li have a larger role, yet they do not overshadow the performance by Sylvester Stallone, as well as the guest appearances by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, and the incredible 72 year old Chuck Norris. I didn't expect to see the round kicks Chuck is famous for, but I thought he had just enough screen time to let the world know he is still a bad ass for an old man.
