North East India is commonly conceived of as the land of Seven Sister States, namely Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. The land is considered by many scholars as a cultural corridor between India and South East Asia and has a tremendeous strategical importance not only because of the geography but also because of its history, demography and culture.

According to 1991 census, the total population of the region is around 31.4 million who are distributed over an area of around 2.6 lakh sq. Km. In the north eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland, upward of 907of the population is Tribal. However in the remaining North East States of Assam, Manipur, Sikkim and Tripura, Tribal people of 20 percent of the population.

North East India provides shelter to numerous population of various ethic affiliated having different social structure and social cultural heritage. There is a rich assembly of Tribal structure and social cultural communities in their rugged expanse of the eastern Himalayas. All told there are upward of 130 major Tribal group in the NorthEastern India. Including the few inhabiting the plane areas. In other words one third of the number of listed Tribes for the whole of India are to be found in the region. It is also well known to shelter a variety of tribes living in absolute peace and harmony . this part of India is famous for its indigenous and maculate culture and traditions. The advancement in technology Has not blemished the deep-rooted native ideas of the native inhabitant of North East India. They worship their identity and embraces it without any hesitation.

North East India, it is considered as one of the culturally distinguishable demense of the world. It is inhabited by more than 200 fascinated Tribes. No doubt the region has over the time has captured the fancy scientist all over the world.

Pradesh consists of 25 types of Tribes and Nagaland more than 16 types of All these Tribes have been vastly spread all over the states of North East. Arunachal tribes. Some major North East India Tribes.

BODO TRIBES

It is a heroic tribe thet shares a great number of people from Assam. These tribe are spread all over the country. It is said that these tribes were the ones to invent rice cultivation, tea plantation, poultry farm etc. Bodos are non vegetarian and rice is the typical food they eat, their favourite beverage is ‘zu mai’. Bodos weave and rear silk worms in North Eastern part of the city. They start it from a very tender age. Women weave and make their traditional dress of the Bodos. They also make beautiful crafts from bamboo.

KUKI TRIBE

These are the migrant ones. They are found everywhere, the language here is different, but they are sort of similar. They usually reside on hills top. Their villages are a group of house that are built very close to each other. They cultivate dwarf cotton and yarns. They use dye made of vegetable beautiful designs are made. Kuki men wear beautiful Smoking is enjoyed by these people. They use extensively created pipes made up of stones and bross metal.

ADI TRIBE

These are found in Arunachal Pradesh, lies on hell and have on village council. This group is again divided into various small sub-tribe. The dress of people is naturally weaved by women. Older women were spiral earring and yellow necklace, tattooing of hands and legs is quite popular amongst the people. Rice cultivation is done by the people and rice is the stable food there, the neighbouring tribe is Apanti tribe. Adi people keep pigs, chickens and grow vegetable.

NISHI TRIBE

This has originated from the Indo Mongoloid stock. These are mainly inhabited in the lower region of subansiri district. They are amongst the largest tribe of Arunachal Pradesh. Their hair style are very different and also their language is unique. They plait their hair and tie it on the forehead. Skewers made up of brass are passed through the hair. Rings made up of cane are worn around the waist . Men were sleeveless shirts, stripped gaily blue and red together with a martle of cotton or wool are worn around the threat and shoulder. The ornament for female includes beads and pendants.

ANGAMI TRIBE

These are one of the major tribe communities of Nagaland. It is found in Manipur and has a population of more than million. The clothes worn by them are very different for both man and women. Men were shawls and women Mechala, it is a wrap around skirts. Both men and women wear ornaments made from natural stones and metals. Angamis are popular for their wood craft and art works, and tree, majors supplies of bamboo art and cane furniture. Traditional music is a part of their group for festivals and rituals. They practice pottery and busket making. Pork with bamboo shoot is their staple diet. Angami are popular for their wood craft and art work and are famous all over the country.

RENGMA TRIBE

They are a Naga Tribal community which is found in both Nagaland as well as in Assam. The population is more than 50,000 in the entire Nagaland itself. The community is further classified in two categories that are Eastern and Western Rengmas. They are supposed to be expert in terrace cultivation.
