Justify the Value's Position in the List. Include any challenges to employing these values consistently when making personal and organizational decisions.
Accountability I have learned that you must be accountable for your actions. No one is to blame but you, good or bad. I was brought up in a Christian home that taught me to put God first. I was taught to be accountable to live the life that is expected of me from my beliefs in the Bible. Accountability to God is first in my life for values. I am first and foremost accountable to my Lord and Savior. I am accountable to live my life for Him. When I live my life with accountability to the Lord the other values fall into place. I have a responsibility to teach this accountability to my children. It is not always easy to live for God in the work place. As several of the readings stated for this week, there are unethical practices in management. Having accountability to the Lord helps me to make the right decision.
Integrity The Encarta Dictionary states integrity: possession of firm principles: the quality of possessing and steadfastly adhering to high moral principles and professional standards. I have a friend that lives her life this way. She does not compromise. I know that she always stands for what is right and just. This is true for her personal life as well as her professional life. I want my staff to know that they can trust me and that I stand up for what is just and right. I find it difficult to place a number value on my values. They are all equally important and they build off of each other. I have to have integrity in order to stay focused. As with accountability, there are unethical people in the world that I encounter everyday. I know what is wrong and right and I have to stand up for what is right even if not the popular decision.
Truthfulness If you do not have truth what do you have? All my life both my parents stressed the importance of telling the truth, no matter what the outcome. It was always better to be truthful and have to face consequences then lie and have to live with your self. I teach this to my boys' everyday. They learn that by not telling the truth life is actually harder then when telling the truth to start. I joke about having to tell the truth because I can not remember well enough not to get caught in a lie. But honestly I tell the truth because I have to live with myself. Telling the truth is important in work and personal life. At work, it shows that I do have integrity and it allows my staff the freedom to tell the truth knowing that is what is expected of them. In my personal life my children are learning this valve is important. Like my staff, they know the truth is expected of them. Truthfulness can hurt ones feelings so you need to practice tact as well.
Respect Respect is important in two ways. Both respect for self and for others. My father was
