Fiscal Policy for Darfur
Darfur is a region located on the western side of Sudan. Darfur is plagued by such things as unemployment, diseases and by far the biggest is genocide. Also drought, desertification, and overpopulation are destroying the people of Darfur. If the Sudanese conflict was over and the city was looking to rebuild its economy there would be several proposals that the United States could imply. One major component that the U.S. could improve is the education system and the role the people in rebuilding their own economy. Another proposal that I believe could improve both jobs and the drought and desertification is a pipeline from either the Nile River or the Red Sea to a station in or near Darfur.
The schools in Darfur are few in number and are usually understaffed and under funded. In South Darfur there are nearly 257,000 children that are affected by the conflict and are at school age. Children are able to go to school because their families have lost their land. Some of the problems that the education system will always face is understaffing and problems with the actual education plan that teachers will be using. These is the first and foremost issue to address because if the people do not become educated then the policy and plan will just be temporary.
The pipeline idea that I propose would be beneficial on several levels. First it would improve the drought and desertification issue that plagues Africa is experiencing. Also it would create jobs for many Sudanese citizens to work on the construction. The line would stretch to a pumping station a few miles outside of Darfur and would run to either a section on the Nile or a direct line from the Red Sea.
It could also bring new investments into the country and could bring am improvement in the local technologies. Darfur is developing city and with help would have several opportunities
