IAN Thorpe, 24, hasn't looked back since he retired from international swimming late last year.
Surprising to himself, he has quickly found inspiration in environmental causes and a passion for communicating what he knows about them on television.
Ian filmed more than 800 hours of footage for a one-off Foxtel special called Fish Out of Water. In doing so, viewers will share his journey of discovery about the Australian environment and finally grasp the idea of the ongoing issue arising on our planet.
Rather than just lend his celebrity voice to the project, as so many big names do, Thorpe has made the project his own...
He visits coal mines near Newcastle, scuba-dives over bleached coral reefs, hikes through doomed old-growth forests in Tasmania and visits some of the country's most enchanting landscapes where the effects of climate change are devastatingly visible.
