Often people face hardships that may discourage them or cause them to become less motivated. Adversities such as: war, disabilities, growing up without a father, heartbreak, and living with a low intellectual level can make it difficult for a person to stay strong and focused. Forrest Gump is a movie that shows how the protagonist deals with and reacts to the misfortunes that happen in society and within his personal relationships with his family and friends. Forrest Gump takes place in the 1950’s through 1980’s in Forrest’s hometown of Greenbow, Alabama. Forrest Gump was a simple man with an IQ of 75, which is below average. As a child Forrest Gump was bullied because he was not very bright and he had to wear braces on his legs. This part of the movie is very relatable for viewers, because everyone has experienced bullying at some point in their lives. Forrest was fortunate enough to meet his friend Jenny, whom he fell and remained in love with all his life. Jenny was sexually abused by her father, eventually child services stepped in and Jenny went to live with relative. Child abuse of any kind is a very sensitive and controversial subject in America. By discussing this controversial topic in the movie, the writers made viewers aware of what happens to children all over the world. The actress who played Jenny did an excellent job portraying such a troubled individual, as a viewer I could really feel her pain and emotion each time she was on the screen. After high school, and an exceptional college football career, Forrest Gump joined the army and went on to fight in the Vietnam War. During his time in the military Forrest Gump met two people that were very influential in his life; Bubba and Lieutenant Dan. Throughout his life Forrest Gump achieved many things and inspired people, however his heart and mind always went back to Jenny, his childhood sweetheart. Forrest Gump and Jenny Curran always found their way back to each other in very dramatic ways. The genre of the film is comedy and drama, the mixture of comedy and drama really helped develop the plot. Despite lacking the true realities of life Forrest Gump is a movie that uses innovative special effects in the plot. The heroic protagonist and funny and intriguing
