Frivolous Lawsuits

Eliminating frivolous lawsuits will help society. Frivolous lawsuits are a waste of time and money. They increase insurance rates and they destroy the money of the society. People are forced to pay higher taxes for court use and this destroys our economy because hard working citizens are losing numerous amounts of dollars a year for these ridiculous claims.

People often abuse the privilege of compensation in lawsuits. Lawsuits allow us to even the score when unfair things that we can not help happen to us. Some people have a distorted view of what is fair and what is an important enough problem to take to court.

Even though the law says that anyone who feels they have been treated unfairly can sue for compensation. The abuse of this privilege hurts our whole society. For example, Stella Lieback sued Mc Donald's for a coffee that was too hot. The total damage of this incident was 200,000 dollars. She ended up winning 2.7 million dollars in punitive damage because she drank and spilled coffee that she ordered. Another examples is, Karen Norman drowned in Galveston Bay because she was drunk and could not undo her seatbelt. Her parents sued Honda for making seatbelts that their drunken daughter could not operate. They were awarded 65 millions dollars because of this frivolous case.

These lawsuits are especially harmful to society because they raise insurance rates and taxes. When a company is sued their insurance pays for their settlement and this makes their rates skyrocket. They raise taxes because court time, judges, and jury are all

paid for their services. These things are all handled through our taxes. So excessive court use raises taxes and court expenses.

Although insurance rates gradually increase anyways, lawsuits cause rates to suddenly spike. Every time your insurance
