Through time, strong and huge heroes have emerged from all around the world. Heroes that with their big muscles and great ability in fighting have saved the world from many different catastrophes. But is a tough body and outstanding fighting ability necessary in a person for him or her to be a hero? Well, we can examine closely many other characters that may not fulfill these two factors; one of them is a little hobbit that lives in The Shire called Frodo Baggins. He's a character from J.R. Tolkien's trilogy "The Lord of the Rings", a young and interesting hobbit who is interested in adventure and fun. Frodo was adopted by his uncle Bilbo Baggins, the wealthy bachelor, after his parents died. By coincidence, Bilbo and Frodo shared a common birthday with the only difference that Bilbo was 77 years older than young Frodo who was 32. At their next birthday (Bilbo's 111th and Frodo's 33rd ) Bilbo held the great Birthday Party and afterwards departed from the Shire to adventure all around middle earth and he left everything to Frodo including a mysterious ring. A ring that was won by Bilbo to a creepy creature called Gollum in a series of riddles. This ring became the reason for Frodo's long journey. This ring was very important; it had the power to control all of middle earth. This one ring is known as the ring of power. When the original owner was killed the ring was lost for many years. And the ring wants to be returned to its owner, Sauron, an evil creature who only knew darkness. This ring controlled 19 other rings that resulted in the total control of all forces. After a while, Gandalf (a wizard) explained to Frodo the importance of the ring and the risks that he was running by having it. Immediately he realized he was putting the Shire, a place he loved, in great danger and decided to make one of the most important decisions in his life. He embarks upon a quest to return the ring to its home, where it was created, so it could be destroyed. He decided to leave The Shire with the ring, avoid all the monsters that chased it and carry it to a safer place, an action that clearly demonstrated his courage since a weak and small hobbit didn't had that much of a chance in surviving such a danger. "I should like to save the Shire, if I could - though there have been times when I thought the inhabitants too stupid and dull for words, and have felt that an earthquake or an invasion of dragons might be good for them. But I don't feel like that now. I feel that as long as the Shire lies behind, safe and comfortable, I shall find wandering more bearable: I shall know that somewhere there is a firm foothold, even if my feet cannot stand there again" , Here Frodo expresses his feelings toward The Shire and its people. Frodo then travels to Rivendell, a trip that started the whole journey. Frodo goes on this quest and completes many small tasks that show how big he was in despite of his height.
Effort, energy and courage guided Frodo through the whole journey. This little individual didn't knew what he was getting into but with no fear on what could happen, he offered himself with no doubts to carry the ring. At Rivendell, the fate of the ring should be decided. Eight of the most talented warriors and a wizard gathered around and discussed what should be done. Possession of great power came into some of this people's minds and extreme danger came into others'. Without thinking it twice and due to the lack of volunteers, Frodo offered himself to carry the ring to the Cracks of Doom in Mordor where the ring should be destroyed. "I will take the Ring," he said, "though I do not know the way" , a clear demonstration of his strength and courage. His outstanding words were hard to swallow, "how could such a little creature handle such a huge charge, let me do it and I promise it will arrive to its destiny" , said one of the mighty warriors, but no replies were heard. Frodo was trusted to take the huge responsibility of saving Middle Earth with 9 companions who were referred to as the Fellowship of the Ring and his two hobbit friends. From here Frodo begins to show what he's made of as the Ringbearer. "Do you still hold to your word, Frodo, that you will be the Ring-bearer?" "I do," said naive and unknowing Frodo. "I will go with Sam." .
We know that strength is good for today but intelligence lasts forever. Frodo, as described by the Wizard Gandalf, was a "stout little fellow with red cheeks [as were most Hobbits]... taller than some and fairer than most, [with] a cleft in his chin: perky chap with a bright eye." He really wasn't a skillful fighter or a keen swordsman but his intelligence made him go far. Along the way to Mordor, Frodo and Fellowship of the Ring encountered many difficulties, which were personal tasks and achievements for the ringbearer. He had many heroic adventures with and without the Fellowship before he finally reached The Cracks of Doom.
Dragons, wizards, ring wraiths, Black Riders and many other dark and evil monsters looked for this ring. These monsters that searched for the ring represented darkness, and danger, and was against these monsters were Frodo showed his bravery. After showing this bravery by leaving his hobbit hole and accepting the quest of taking the ring, Frodo fights against some of this monsters with almost no problem at all. Frodo actually ends up
