To define gender stratification even better, one could imply from the above that, it is a set of rights, obligations, expectations, and privileges that determines men's and women's behavior within the society. The last 40 years, women are getting high education and some of them combining their talent in the working field, are capable of doing as well as men in their jobs. On the other hand, some women who complain about outspokenness and assertiveness are treated unequally and have negative effects in their professional lives.
Most people feel that the qualities and characteristics we perceive as specific to gender are inherent by nature. In America, physical strength is stereotyped to be masculine, while emotional behavior is stereotyped as feminine. Any straying from these expectations is sufficient grounds for alienation. However, historian Howard Zinn has documented that gender roles are a part of a system constructed by the ruling class during the formation of our nation. The gender role structure in the US was designed in order to maintain a centralized, wealthy ruling class. In order to keep wealthy, white men in control of the economy, women have been constructed as inferior to men -- physically, mentally and emotionally
When I was young I did not think about my gender role. I did not think about the day to day events in my life that affected my gender. When I look back I can find so many instances of gender in my life. So, I am taking one of the smallest instances because of the many ways it relates to not only gender building, but maintaining. As a child I remember very cold winters in Omaha. My sister and I loved to play outside in the snow. So, my parents bought us matching snowsuits. They were pink with lavender trim.
Studying the similarities and differences between the sexes, has had a rather colorful story. In the old days, the males'' desire for domination led to some bizarre" scientific" attempts to show that the male is smarter than the female. One of the claims by males 100 years ago concerned brain size. Since women have smaller heads that men, their brains must be smaller, so the male scientists said that females were not as bright. The point is that male/female relationships have been dominated even in science rather than by research. There are a lot of differences between a male and female, which prove that no man or woman is the same. Males are bulkier and stronger as a group compared to females, but females have fewer genetics defects, live longer, and have greater physical endurance. The female bears the offspring and provides nourishment for the infant, which creates a very strong bond between the two. We usually see aggression as primarily a masculine characteristic, and males do indeed show more aggression those females, boys tend to play ruff games while girls play with dolls. Girls care more about feelings and they play with each other. Girls study faces while men are obsessed with sports. Girls are more sensitive and guys don't show their feelings. Women have a better memory for detail. Men and women use different parts of the brain to think about the something. Studies have proven that guys tend to have better math skills than girls. Men have better visual skills; they know how to play with 3-D games. A girl tends to take a while but still gets the same figure. It also showed that girls tend to play with make up while boys play with balls, sticks; trucks etc. sexiest parenting makes the boys more ruff. Every girl and guy should have equal opportunities in the job field. According to the book achievement is often described as a masculine goal. But research indicated that females are, in fact, just as oriented toward achievement as males. The causes are all around us. When we watch he TV ads we see that women are always connected somehow with ads for soap or for food products that need cooking. The men tend to be focus in any ad involving something mechanical. Women tend to pick careers like in the medicine field, business while men pick the medicine field as well as arquitecture, engineering etc. There are however, women that study
