Geoffrey Trease

Geoffrey Trease was an author who had published over 110 books since his childhood, within various categories and different eras, which were translated into foreign languages. Most of all, he had an ardent interest in writing from his childhood days. As a high school student, he wrote poems, stories and plays. In his endeavor to become a writer, he gave up his scholarship in Oxford University and went to London. Geoffrey Trease was well known for writing children's historical novels such Bows Against Barons, which was his first publication in 1934. He introduced his readers to historic events or through his exciting plots, strong characters and his attention to specific details. Geoffrey Trease had portrayed a sense of fairness and belief in equality as a theme in many of his books. In addition, he wrote his books in a way that within the historical settings, the reader would recognize many parallels with modern-day issues. Another fact was that his stories were ranged in different eras from Ancient Greece to the 20th Century. To name a few, The Crown of Violet at the time of Ancient Greece, The Red Towers of Grenada in the Middle Ages, Cue for Treason in Elizabethan England, Fire on the Wind for Restoration London and numerous others. Soon, he became a well-accomplished writer. Not only did he write children's novels but he also wrote modern school stories, adult novels, history, plays for television, biographies and two autobiographies. For the most part, all of his work was translated into 20 different foreign languages around the world. Therefore, Geoffrey Trease won great acclaim that his books were translated in many foreign languages for diverse groups and in various eras.
