The internet is a very useful source in today's society. It has become almost a way of life for most people. people work at home fropm the internet, shop on the internet, e-mail...... The list goes on. So since this has become such an asset in peoples lives then should the government be involved with the regulation of the internet?
Children play video games online all of the time, some of which they could not play if it weren't for the invention of the internet. So if children connot buy these games at a store they just go online and check the box that says yes I am 18 yrs. or older. Should it be the parents responsibility to regulate how their computer is being used or should the government come up with some way to fix this problem? Well it would take years to develop a committee to come up with laws for internet use. It is not a tool used only by Americans, it is the "World wide web" therefore you would have to have officials from all countries to do this and what Americans think is wrong might not be considered wrong in other parts of the world. So obviously this would be a long an drawn out process.
There is also the problem of identity theft going on all over the internet and people are getting upset with this but if they are willing to put personal information about theirselves, such as credit card numbers, on an unsecure site then that is there decision and that's why I think that self regulation is the best way to regulate the internet. Our government has bigger fish to fry then to babysit Americans and their children.
