We have a government that has been around for 200 years. Have you ever really thought of how it came to be or why it has lasted for so long? Well all thanks should go to our United States Constitution. The Constitution is the framework for our government. The structure of government, our freedoms and rights as citizens, and the branches of government are all explained in this piece of American history. We shall take a look at our government's form.
The articles of our Constitution set up the three branches of the federal government. The Legislative branch makes the laws of our country that are sensitive to the needs of our nation. Next is the Executive branch, which implements and enforces these laws. Finally, the Judicial branch interpretates the laws. All branches have checks and balances to keep any one branch from having too much power or control. These checks and balances could be one branch voiding or amending acts of another branch.
Next, the Constitution defines the powers of our federal and state governments. State governments are similar to our federal as they have three branches as well. State governments get any power not specifically given to the federal branches. All details for the state governments are found in their own constitution; each state has their own. Finally, the first ten amendments spell out our freedoms as citizens to the United States. Our ancestors made sure to include these rights so that future generations will never be denied their liberties on their pursuit of happiness.
A federal government is defined as a government with strong central powers. The Constitution gives us strong powers by giving us a central government that performs checks on each other to keep power balanced. It maps out a structure that lasts for centuries. The Constitution also leaves us with a Bill of Rights to secure our freedoms. Many changes may have taken place since it was first ratified
