The definition of a great leader would be a person great perseverance, courage, bravery, integrity, and determination. Nelson Mandela matches this definition perfectly he has all of these outstanding qualities and then some. The South African activist and former president Nelson Mandela (1918-2013) helped bring an end to apartheid and has been a global advocate for human rights.  Nelson Mandela is a famous politician that stood up for equal rights for all people especially African Americans and was the first president of South Africa that was elected in a democratic election. Mandela has supported reconciliation and negotiation, and has helped lead the transition towards multi-racial democracy in South Africa and for this has been awarded the noble peace prize. Nelson Mandela has invented a world of freedom and equality and has done this by standing up for what he believes in and persevering and doing whatever it takes to make his dream come true. Mandela was so successful in achieving his goal of equality because of his courage, determination, and intelligence and without these characteristics none of his goal would be achievable. He established a number of organizations, including the influential Nelson Mandela Foundation and The Elders, an independent group of public figures committed to addressing global problems and easing human suffering. In 2002, Mandela became a vocal advocate of AIDS awareness and treatment programs in a culture where the epidemic had been cloaked in stigma and ignorance.  Nelson Mandela is a true hero of our society today and will always be look at as a great leader. I think it takes honesty, communication, confidence, inspiration, positivity, delegation, commitment, humor, creativity and intuition to become a great leader.  I also believe anyone can be a great leader if he or she puts their mind to it and stays focused, being a great leader is not a job, it is a privilege that anyone should be proud of.
