My name is Henry Newton and I am the lord of the Anglo-Saxons. I own the Griffiths castle which is surrounded by a huge ditch filled with deep dark water. The caste walls, thickness is arm sized length and the shadow across the water gives you a view of the castle in a whole another way. The height of the castle is extraordinary. The castle stood on top of a luscious green hill with over grown grass, climbing up the castles grey, dark and worn down walls. You could see the castle from a ton of miles away. As you stand on the top of the castle you could see the whole land. The small houses, the villages, the crops and everything.
The castles green enhances the atmosphere where the castle lays, the massive wooden drawbridge and huge towers soaring up into the sky are just a few beautiful pieces of the castle. Steep staircases make it hard for invaders to attack, the perfect defence to the castle. Dark and gloomy rooms, with hardly any lighting makes the word eerie sounds like an understatement for this marvellous but simply creepy structure. With many features, the castle truly brings out the features of the beautiful land and landscape.
On the 20th of December we had decided to host a vast Christmas celebration, with a huge feast in between with plenty of delightful food and entertainment. The celebration was prepared by everyone in the castle. The cook cooked the meals, and made delightful food which everyone enjoyed. I invited the guests, so we had many people from the land who came. My children helped set up the decorations and everyone had small jobs here and there. Everyone had a role and took part in the celebration.
We have a huge family here in the castle and everyone is connected in some way. There is me, the king, people obey and respect me. I have a very important role of the people. I give everyone orders which they accept and if they are loyal I give them something in return to benefit them such as extra land, houses, things to build with and many other thing. There is the queen, everyone must respect her and follows her orders too, and her primary role was to have male children so that when the king died there would be another king to rule the kingdom. If I was ever away she would have to replace me and rule the country until I was back. There were the servants who just followed and respected our rules and did as we said. There was also the guards who took care of the many things that happened and guarded all the rooms and most parts of the castle. Then there was the nobles, clergies, tradesman, merchants, castle workers, and entertainers and military who were below us.
Our country was divided by the feudal system, in which a majority of the population was unskilled workers, peasants, serfs, and mostly worked in the fields. Above them were the vassals or knights who kept the peasants in line and provided protection for the lord. The lord, which is myself, was the head of the entire system and I controlled classes below.
At this time there were many people committing crimes and they would have to face severe punishments and harsh torture. People often had their right hand cut off for stealing, people were burned alive, stretched on racks and women who committed adultery were drowned. Suffocating people in water was the most common punishment, they never thought about the punishments they would have to face before they did the crime. We tried to let everyone know about the punishments so they would be scared and try not to commit the crime.
We were all catholic so we went to the church every time we had to. It was extremely important and a rule everyone had to follow.
On the 25th of December, which was Christmas day, we held the celebration. Nearly the whole empire had come and were anxiously waiting for the celebration to begin.
The doors opened and everyone cheered, happily. As the last people came through the large doors, we shut the gates. Thankfully everyone steadily and calmly walked inside feeling excited, in an ordinary fashion. The happiness and joy that ran across the people’s faces had created great air for the wonderful celebration which mad the day a hundred times better. With lively, colourful garlands the castle gave had a whole-hearted feel to the castle for once.
