Gun Control
Gun control is a highly controversial and widely debated topic. This is one of those topics that there a very small part of middle ground, most people are either for or against gun control. I am one of the people that sits in the very small percent, which is in the middle. I can see both side of this topic. But I do have to say I do own guns. I am also a gun enthusiast and I am not willing to give up my right to own guns.
If you look throughout history you will find that civilians owning guns is a big part of our culture. It states in the second amendment of the constitution, that we the people of this country have the right to bear arms. That does not mean pulling up our sleeves on our shirts and take a walk through town. It means that we have a right to own guns.
For the most part guns were more of a tool to the civilians in the early years of this country. It’s not like they could just walk down to the grocery store to get there food. They had to hunt for it.
It was not until the mid to late 1800’s that gun issues first came into history. It was within the Wild West days when people had to stop wearing guns within city limits. This could be considered the first law of gun control. This was because of the outlaw groups like Jesse James and William H. Bony better known as Billy the kid they really did not know how to keep their hands off their guns. It wasn’t until the 1920’s and prohibition era that new gun control laws came into effect. This was due to the rise of organized crime. With people like Al Capone, Lucky Luciano, And Bugsy Moran, who like to use the Thompson sub machine gun to slaughter people. This put a band on the Thompson sub machine gun and made it illegal to own by the general public. It also bands every other type of fully automatic gun. After all the automatic guns were band Bonnie and Clyde shot their way into our nation’s history using the B.A.R.. This pretty much proved that just because it is band, it doesn’t mean that people cannot get one if they really what it.
There are a lot of things going wrong in this nation today when it come to guns. It seems like every day on the news there is another school shooting or there is another murder just down the road from where we live. To prove the point I was just on the web ad found out that two teenagers were killed up by Chester Ca and there is another murder in Oakland. (kcra.com/news/16237753/detail) This stuff happens way too much in today’s society and change needs to happen. But the change needs to be fair for all the people of this nation. About two mounts ago there was a thing on the news that antigun lobbyist got together with an animal’s rights group to try to band hunting in this country. The reason for this is if they can band hunting they will have an easier time on banding guns. If there is no hunting then we do not need to own guns, at least that is what they think. But I do not think how many people in this country own guns. This chart represents private firearm ownership in the U.S. as of 1993/1994
Households with a gun Adults owning a gun
Percentage 49% 31%
Total number 47,600,000 59,100,000
(Gertz, 1995)
I can only imagine how many people own guns now that it is 14 years later. I believe that no antigun lobbyist will be able to completely band guns in the country.
