Hamlet vs. What Dreams May Come

"Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer

The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,

Or to take arms against a sea of troubles"

In the movie "What Dreams May Come" there are two people who fit this quote.

Chris and Annie are the parents of the children that have both died. The mother Annie goes insane for a short period of time, while the father Chris is strong-willed and shows no signs of insanity. He is the noble minded one who suffers till the outrageous fortune of the ending to his life, while Annie can no longer bear the loss of not only her children but her husband as well, and decides to commit suicide.

"To die: to sleep;

No more; and by a sleep to say we end

the heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks"

Here is where Annie portrays Hamlet and his choice of life or death. Although Hamlet chose life in the end, this is what may have happened to him if he chose to die as did Annie. In the movie it shows how Annie lives her life in hell, living a nightmare of which Hamlet is afraid of seeing if he were to take his own life. On the other hand Chris who has decided to move on with his life, ends up dying in an accident. He then goes to heaven, where he is in his wife's paintings.

When Chris finds out about his wife's death, he decides to not give up and try to get her back, as Hamlet is trying to seek revenge for his father. In the movie a life is brought back (Annie) and in the play a life is trying to be taken away.

But that the dread of something after death.
