Haunted House
As always when Dan got back from work, he stood on the doorstep trying and failing to find the right key. He was tired from work and he couldn’t manage to find the right keys quickly. At last Dan found the right key, turned it in the lock and pushed his way into his house. He thought that something was strange, the hallway was dim and looked no different than it had when he left it this morning.
“Hello”
The single word spoken aloud echoed loudly, he didn’t get an answer but he still felt that he wasn’t alone. Dan climbed the stairs one step at a time and the feeling of not being alone climbed along with him. He saw a glimpse of a shadow in his bedroom. It sent a chill down his spine and he got goose bumps. He knew something wasn’t right when he first stepped foot into this house. He went in his room slowly, each step produced its own distinct creak, he was like a child walking past the haunted house. There was a sound that came from behind him and he quickly turned around. The curtains moved without anyone being there. He didn’t know what to do, he stood still for a solid minute. It’s like he was frozen in time. He was trying to remember what the previous owner warned him about. He has been living in this house since he was 7 years old. His parents had passed away and he was the only one living in this house ever since. The previous owner said this house was haunted but Dan’s parents didn’t believe in ghosts. So they bought this house. Dan was a young boy back then, he wasn’t sure what the previous owner said. The only words he could remember was that this house was haunted. He heard footsteps but he couldn’t see anyone or anything. He closed his eyes.
“Who’s there?” He silently whispers to himself.
He could hear whispers all around him. It wasn’t clear what they were saying but it sounded like it was a spell. Upon hearing the whispers, Dan immediately opened his eyes. Squinting, he looked around, he still have goose bumps. The wrinkles on the sides of his eyes straightened with the release of his squint. Dan quickly ran up to his room and close the door shut and locked it. He quickly went under his bed and got his phone out. He looked through his contacts trying to figure out who to call. He couldn’t find anyone that would believe him. Dan was to scared to run outside, his room was the only room he felt safe in. The house remained still and silent the entire night until he heard a screeching noise on his window. He was shaking so bad that he dropped his phone. He slowly peaked out and looked at the window. It was a message written in blood. The message said “Leave while you can or be trapped in here forever.” He was shivering and couldn’t move properly even if he wanted to. The whisperings came back, Dan had to make a quick decision to stay or to leave. In a split second, Dan ran outside without even thinking twice about his decision. He ran to the nearest police station and told them about what happened. The police officers just laughed and called him an idiot for believing in ghosts. He urged the police to come to his house and see for themselves.
