When I hear the word race the first thing that comes to mind is the color or people’s skin. Race is how the world has determined who is who. Growing up we was told who is what race like black or white. By placing people in a race seems to determine what they are worth, for example a black person is less likely to be trusted in a department store than a white person, why, because of their race. In the downtown area where I live is known as a bad part of down that you do not want to be in after dark because that is where the blacks live, is what everyone says that lives in the out shirts of down town. The word race is just a way to have people believe things that are not true for everyone of that color it is just like stereotyping someone.

Ethnicity brings to mind Indians and tribes in Asia. Both of these groups have their own ways of doing things such as Indians have a different way of dealing with criminals than the US does. The tribes in Asia usually arrange the marriages or the daughters at a much earlier age than the US. These are just two examples of the different ways that ethnicity is portrayed in different cultures.

The different race and ethnic groups are important to the US for the products that we can purchase from them. The different ways of thinking and seeing things in different ways is important to the US not to mention the world. With out the different races and ethnic backgrounds our world would not have anything to learn. Learning is what makes the world go around.
