Project Title Homemade Candle with Orange: An Alternative to Commercial Candle
Abstract Objectives This experiment tests the difference of the commercial candle and homemade candle with orange. The researchers want to produce an aromatic candle with a long shelf life. Methods/Materials The materials needed are 1 cup of petroleum jelly, 1 tsp. of palm oil, 2-3 tbsp. of rock salt, 1-2 oranges for 1 cup of orange peelings (grated) and 2 ½ cups of orange juice, a container, wick, medium sauce pan, and metal spoon. For the procedure, the researchers prepared the materials and ingredients in the table. Put the sauce pan in the stove for a medium high heat. Put the measured petroleum jelly into the saucepan and add the 1 tsp. of palm oil. The petroleum jelly will melt until it is completely liquid. Gently add the measured rock salt and orange peelings to the mixture and stir it until combined. Turn the stove off. Prepare the container and stick the wick inside of the container using clear tape. Use 2 pencils to stand the wick. Pour the orange juice to the mixture and stir it. Pour the mixture to the container. Wait for 10 minutes. Remove the pencils and cut the wick into its right length. Results The homemade candle with orange is more fragrant than the commercial candle. However, the commercial candle lasted longer than the orange candle.
Recommendation The researchers recommend future researchers to recreate this study with a specific number of trials to have more credible results. The orange can be replaced with different fruits too. |
