Often time diet pill companies use the terms “quick”, “just minutes a day”, or “with no effort” however the plant Hoodia Gordonii has them scratching scientist’s heads. This product first came into popularity in 2004, after “60 Minutes” correspondent Lesley Stahl traveled to South Africa to report on the strange plant. Still after this the public has some questions; what is Hoodia Gordonii? How does it work? And which brands can I trust?

Hoodia Gordonii is a cactus plant found in Southern Africa; it grows in some of the harshest conditions in the world and takes five to seven years to mature. The plant is so rare it often makes authentic Hoodia products quite costly. There are many types of Hoodia cactus but the Hoodia Gordonii is the only one that shows weight loss potential. The San Bushman who live in the South African Deserts have used Hoodia for all sorts of things from wounds to using while on long hunting trips to starve off hunger.

Most diet pills work as a stimulant containing large amounts of caffeine trying to increase the user’s metabolism. When taking these pills you often feel jittery, stressed, and nervous, because of the high amounts of stimulants, these often do more harm than help. Hoodia is supposed to be different researchers think that Hoodia blocks sensors in your brain making you feel full when in reality you are not. According to the people at hoodia-facts.com it “tricks” your brain into making you feel full.

While many diet products claim to contain Hoodia Gordonii often times they do not have any or not enough to create any sort of reaction in the body.
