House Evaluation Model

              House evaluation model assesses the text according to some factors such as level of language, register, function and genre. Here my aim  is to evaluate “ Abou Adhem” and its translation in the register level.

                                                         SL field analysis

Abou Ben Adhem written by Attar, is allegorical, allusive and mystical rhymed prose. It’s the conversation between Abou Adhem and Gabriel. It’s been written to read by general people since the language is simple and clear.

        TL field analysis

Abou Ben Adhem written by Attar has been translated by Leigh Hunt to English. The translation is also mystical but it’s considered as rhymed poetry. It’s also has been translated to be read by general people. It’s worth to mention that the translation has been expanded and has further explanation due to aesthetic factors.

                                                                   ST tenor analysis

Abou Ben Adhem was written by Attar Neishapuri. He was born and died in Neishapur. He was a mystic poet and interested in Sufism. He was influence by Rumi, Hafez , Jami, etc. his major works are Memorial of Saints and The conference of the birds. The language used is informal and the social relationship is symmetrical.

James Henry Leigh Hunt, best known as Leigh Hunt was an English critic, essayist, poet and writer. His father was a lawyer and his mother was a Merchant daughter. After that his father became a popular preacher. After he graduated he worked as an essayist and poet. The language used in translation is also informal and the relationship symmetrical.
