How do you explain the differences in acceptability of death penalty? Why some groups/cultures allow it while others do not?
Acceptability of Capital Punishment really depends on various hanging factors, as we are culturally known diverse countries, on why it is inconsistently scattered around the globe.
One factor is that countries have different Systems of Government. The leaders and its citizen’s views towards Death Penalty strongly base on their imposed type of government, for example Saudi Arabia, an example of Islamic State wherein their political and religious views simultaneously reign and govern its fellow countrymen and the country itself, hence their basis of imposing Death as a punishment to crime convicted person depends on their beliefs and more underlying factors. Another factor is because of Culture, there are many countries that are strongly based from their cultures wherein their actions, decisions and views towards Death penalty are based from their practiced and known culture. Another is Religion, Catholics for example that is known devoted people, their acceptability for Death Penalty depends on what the Bible says and what is morally right. Moreover, statistics and studies has also became a basis on acceptability of Death Penalty on a certain state country, Canada and America are examples of these recent type of base form, they tally the existence of Death Penalty to descendant of Crime rates and the underlying factors of whether scrapping of Death Penalty in their country or not. Additional factor is that of history and public opinions towards it. The severity of past and the recent implementation of Death Penalty and the public views made it possible to whether eradicate or sustain Death as a punishment but this is more likely feasible to democratic countries. And more factors affecting acceptability of Capital Punishment.
One proof study shows that Countries with fewer political rights are more likely to have the death penalty.” The link between political rights and abolition of the death penalty was illustrated by the fact that countries with higher literacy rates and developed economies were least likely to have the death penalty. Catholicism also showed a strong influence over the use of capital punishment in the study, showing a reduction of the death penalty where there was a large presence of Catholics.
All of these factors are contained on a single country. These factors statistically changes over time as culture gradually be influenced by modernization. The acceptability of Death Penalty remained inconsistent to some other countries because of their changing views for it and type of basis on sustaining it. Some countries’ Death Penalty remained sturdy because of their underlying belief for its efficacy. In totality, beliefs and perspective are the main basis of accepting Death as a Punishment for criminals, it was just infects with manipulation by our leaders and the court by ruling out its implementation on a certain state.
