How Government Relates To Education

Government is based on invention and reinvention meaning society is establishing new concepts and finding new solutions. Paulo Freire explains the banking concept as a teacher is to teach and a student is to listen. As adults we become lazy and we do not critically consider reality ( Freire, 55).” Government in America is a democracy meaning majority wins. The banking concept can be approached in government and politics. For example, The Executive Branch has a president and as a president it is their job to rule, and our job and a society to be ruled. We also believe the president is in power for a specific reason and deserves the position he/she is in. People who are not interested in government believe in the oppressive society where politicians make the laws and we just follow. Freire states, “ The teacher teaches and the student listens-meekly(Freire, 55).”
“Politics is a moral activity reconciling social and economic differences and constructing a way of governing society without chaos, tyranny, or undue violence (Stephenson, Jr, 2).” Differences create chaos. Part of politics is difference, differences in race, gender, wealth, class, and age. Education is also based on race, gender, wealth, class, and age. Students who are not the majority in race are at a disadvantage, also male students are not as eager to learn as female students, as a student your parents socio economic status plays a huge role in type of education you receive. “In the banking concept of education, knowledge is a gift bestowed by those who consider themselves knowledgeable and those who they consider to know nothing ( Freire, 53).” Minorities are often at a disadvantage when being taught by the banking concept, this is because as meek students they are taught through the text, and learn nothing more than what is going to be on the test. When using the banking concept the minorities will never be heard because they do not have the gift to bestow in a good education.
