Biography of H.P LoveCraft
Lovecraft was born the 20th of august 1890 at precisely 9:00 a.m. in Providence, Rhode Island while still in his home. He was a lonely child of Winfield Scott Lovecraft and Sarah Susan Phillips Lovecraft. When Lovecraft reached the age of three, his father became psychotic while on a business trip in Chicago. They brought him back to Providence where he was put in "Butler Hospital" until he died in 1898. They believe that Winfield died from tertiary syphilis, which is a sexually transmitted disease caused by "spirochaete bacterium".
Lovecraft was then raised by his mother, his two aunts, and his close grandfather, Whipple Van Buren Phillips, all living in one home. Howard was however a child prodigy, reciting poetry at two and writing complete poems at six. He was encouraged by his grandfather, who provided him with classics and stirred his interest in gothic horror. Although his mother thought that these stories would upset him. When Lovecraft was a child, he was always sick. He almost never attended school until the age of eight, but then he was withdrawn after one year. He read a lot during this period and learnt all about chemistry and astronomy.
Whipple Van Buren Phillips, Lovecraft's grandfather, died in 1904 and his death deeply affected Lovecraft. A few years later in 1908, Howard suffered from a nervous breakdown and could never receive his high school diploma. Because his failure towards education he could never study at Brown University like he wanted to. He would write a lot of fiction and poetry until he sent a letter to "The Argosy", which at that was a popular magazine. The debate caused by this caught the eye of Edward F. Daas, who was President of the UAPA. Daas invited Lovecraft in 1914 to join the magazine. His large amount of missives eventually made him one of the great letter writers of the century.
In 1919, Lovecraft's mother also had a nervous breakdown and attended Butler Hospital just like her husband did
