DESIGN OF THE TRAINING WORKSHOP
WORKSHOP CONTENT
Instructional Techniques
People learn various ways by:
- Seeing and reading
- Listening and talking and,
- Using objects, taken apart and rebuilding
The targeted group for training is made up of the employees from the department of Nutrition and Dietetics of the Eric Williams Medical Science Complex (Clinical Area and Food Service Area) with different skills based on their jobs. With the adult learner in mind, the instructional techniques used n the design of the training programme are as follows:
- Slides (Visual Learning): Visual learners learn best through seeing, so the more information they receive through visuals, and visualizing, the better able they are to learn. Because visual learners have more difficulty following information that is given primarily orally, as in a lecture or an oral reading, they need extra support to help them see what they are learning.
- Lectures (Auditory Learning): Auditory learners learn best through hearing, so the more information they receive and process through sound, the better able they are to learn. Because auditory learners have more difficulty with visual materials, they need extra support to help them stay focused when working with text.
- Activity Based (Kinesthetic Learning): Kinesthetic learners learn best through doing, so the more information they receive through physical experience, the better able they are to learn. Kinesthetic learners have some difficulty with both visual and auditory ways of learning; they need extra support to help them stay focused when working with text or listening to a lecture.
