Being a 19 year old male and having to choose your sexual orientation can be a very stressful thing because you might not know by this age. There are many challenges that a person could face when questioning their own sexual orientation such as what is my sexual orientation? Maybe they have not been with enough people of the opposite sex and don’t know if they like it. On the other hand maybe they have been with a lot of people of the opposite sex and want to figure out what being with the same sex is like. Finding your sexual orientation truly relates to experience and who you have been with. Coming out to others about questioning and problems that could arise from that is again relating to experience, is some asks you what your sexual orientation is and you don’t know because maybe you’ve never been with anybody can cause a issue. I am a 19 year old male that is heterosexual but I have friends that haven’t felt the touch of the other gender so they don’t know what they like for sure, they think they know but until it actually happens you can not be sure.
A prejudice that almost all of us face is the fact that we are heterosexual because of our parents or the way we were brought up. For example if you have both parents at home and you are a male with a father that is big into sports and loves his wife very much you would be expected to like women and follow in his footsteps. That is something that hinders a lot of people just based off of peer pressure to follow in the family footsteps but if you never explore you will never truly find out. Relating to friendships, as the book states 90% of the U.S. population is heterosexual so there is a very good chance that all your friends are straight so based off of prejudice you should be straight just like all your friends.
