Note with the analysis for each of the 4 categories (purpose, subject, conflict, elements of form).
- Purpose:
- In the bibliography I am Malala, the purpose of the bibliography is In-equality between men and women because of how they are being treated. The author talks about how, “In Pakistan when women say they want independence, people think this means we don’t want to obey our fathers, brothers or husbands. But it does not mean that. It means we want to make decisions for ourselves. We want to be free to go to school or to go to work” (Malala 159).The women voices are not being heard they don’t want to give them equal right, they are being controlled by the Talban’s.
- Also the narrator also talks about how not having equality in their country between men and women has changed everything because they want “To be free to go to school or to go to work. Nowhere is it written in the Quran that a woman should be dependent on a man. The word has not come down from the heavens to tell us that every woman should listen to a man” (Malala 153).the Taliban’s took away the freedom of women, and their ability to go to school or have a say in anything going on in their country. This relate to equality between men and
Women because, the men are the only ones with power to do anything they want to do, but women are not given the opptunity.
- Lastly, in the biography I am Malala the narrator talks about how, "The Taliban could take our pens and books, but they couldn't stop our minds from thinking."(176).
- Subject:
- Malala is the subject because she is strong brave and intelligent, she always say, “I was used to being top of my class. I was the one who would help other pupils who had difficulty” (Malala 69).Malala was strong and disciple, she had courage and wanted to do great thing, that was why she had to speak up about equality in her country. She made sure her voice was heard and something was done about what was going on in her country, which also led her to being shot.
- Malala was named after Malalai of Maiwand, a famous Pashtun poet, her name means grief, and “I was named after Malalai of Maiwand, the greatest heroine of Afghanistan (Malala 14). She was named after a war hero and was killed by the British army. She was courageous and didn’t care if she was a woman or not because it was only said that men should go to war and women should stay at home. This relate to the purpose because their right are being take away from them forcefully.
- Malala developed a lot of confident and intelligence throughout her life. She faced the citizen of her country and said, “All I want is an education, and I am afraid of no one”. (Malala 138). She wants education and she loves to read books, and she would do anything, which shows dedication. It relates to inequality between men and women because they were not giving the right to go to school after they started invading their country.
- Conflict: Man vs Man
- The main character faced a conflict between the Taliban’s, which is man vs man. The Taliban’s don’t support how Malala want everyone to be educated, and these opposing ideas leads to external conflicts. I am Malala is about how the main character fights against the Taliban’s, Who are trying to take over Malala’s home land, the Taliban threatens and criticize women. “I… for the first time talked publicly about how we had defied the Taliban edict…girls of Swat are not afraid of anyone.” (Malala 127). The Taliban attempted to kill Malala but she survived, she continued to fight against the Taliban. “Taliban are not our rulers. It’s my life; how I live it is my choice.”(Malala 142) Malala changed everything buy not allowing the Taliban’s to take over her home town.
- The Taliban’s destroyed significant things that made history in their country, “They destroyed the Buddhist statues and stupas where we played, which had been there for thousands of years and were a part of our history from the time of the harshen king” (Malala 123).
- Element of form: Symbolism
- One of the element of form I found interesting in the biography I am Malala is "How could they stop more than 50,000 girls from going to school in the twenty-
First century?"(Malala 164). This relate to equality because it seemed like the Taliban only want the men to have their life’s but women should serve them and that they could do anything to them like their little dolls. "When someone takes away your pens you realize quite how important education is"(Malala 159).
