What is someone's identity? Is it the way they look, what they believe, or could be many things all put together? Or is it none of the above? The philosopher Alan Watts once said, "Trying to define yourself is like trying to bite your own teeth." The task of identifying oneself is one of the most challenging tasks a person will face during their lifetime.
What is someone's identity? In my opinion, it is a part of their being, nobody will ever hold it, touch it, or even see it, but it is there. Everyone has an identity; it influences their decision making, thoughts, ideas, and dreams. And because of this everyone feels, acts, thinks, and believes differently. An identity is just like a fingerprint, simply unique. So how does one find his or her identity? You simply create it. You are in charge of your own life, you are in charge of identifying yourself and portraying to the world whom you really are and what you're all about. I believe that is biggest problem people face with identity, creating it.
Creating your identity is hands down the single most nerve-wreaking, heart-wrenching, and mind-puzzling thing to do. During adolescence the quest for self identification is the race every teenager is running, and the prize is simply security and self-confidence. Knowing one's place and purpose in the world is probably the most delightful feeling a person can experience other than true love and harmony. Currently this is a problem that I and many of my peers are facing. Personally, I am at the point where I have realized that every little thing I do contributes to who I am and how I seen. Even right now in the middle of writing this paper, I'm facing a problem with self-identification, just by sitting here worrying about how this paper will make me look.
