"Letters from the Other Side:" Documentary about Immigrants from Mexico
There are many reasons why these families leave their home town to go to the United States. You certainly cannot blame them. The circumstances that force them to leave their home country is a lot of the times, a threat to their survival. Mexico has undergone a lot of brutal dictatorships and a bloody revolution. This has caused this small country to crumble so easily. The common people a lot of the times, lose their jobs, cannot find employment and even starvation results. When these people are in desperate situations like this, they have no other option but to cross the border a lot of the times, risking their lives to go to the U.S. The people that help carry them through this process are called smugglers. They illegally, smuggle illegal immigrants and provide entry to the United States. When these people take this risk, it is a big one indeed one with no promise.
However, they are so desperate that they are willing to risk their lives to come to the United States. Lots of cases have been reported where dead bodies have been found due to illegal smugglers smuggling them into a truck often, with no ventilation and fear of being caught. Yet they are willing to go through all this just to come here. When these immigrants attempt a forced entry with little or almost no chance of success, some often do end up losing their lives. Besides dealing with one less source of income, their families are often left to find a way themselves to survive through whatever means they can. Some of them sew clothing, some women also make pillows to sell to the " rich white people" and build houses for the "rich white people" they are happy to do these jobs as this is the only way that they can support themselves and their families through this difficult time. Although, they do not make lots of profits, they do manage to make ends meet.
