Bang, bang, bang. Gunshots, broken bottles, and drug houses. When you think of these images what comes to mind? Surely a suburban area wouldn't allow these horrific images to dominate their living spaces. The ghetto on the other hand, is a place where there is low income housing, liquor stores are popular and police sirens are the norm. Although these occurrences make the state as a whole look bad, the government makes very little effort to improve life for poorer classes living in ghettos. Imperialism is when one entity be it a person or people, place, or thing controls territory other than their own. The ghetto is an example of imperialism in everyday life. The government and higher classes dominate the economic, social, and political aspects of ghetto life all over the United States.

A nation's economy is what helps it survive. The government does whatever they can do to make money and keep the economy going strong. In the ghetto, poverty is one of its major issues. A lot of the tenant's only income is from welfare. This allows the government to control how much money goes into a household. Others with jobs work for minimum wage. After the government deducts taxes and other fees you are left with nothing more than spare change. Neither welfare nor minimum wage is enough to support a family. Since money and materials are scarce people are forced to find other ways to supply for their families. Medical needs and schooling are often over looked because families have to pinch pennies. Schools have old books and many teachers wouldn't dare drive through the area's better known as "hoods". This leaves children uneducated or undereducated and looking for a means of survival. Many end up following the vicious cycle that has been set out for them. Their destinies are being controlled because they now have to work minimum wage jobs or jump on the welfare bandwagon just to provide.

Although economic problems with residents of the ghetto are not great, social life is not much better. The entertainment industry promotes sex, drugs and violence, especially amongst popular black artist in the industry. Past artist have tried to inform the people in the ghetto of the limitations that are gradually being placed on them by the government, but that type of music goes unheard. The residents of the ghettos have already been put in a mental state that makes the governments job a piece of cake. The media and music sends out the messages have sex with as many as possible; smoke this; and with the gun comes the respect; all these images and related messages make you cool. They know that ghetto occupants are really listening and are wasting money trying to achieve the American dream, coolness. What many fail to realize is that while money is being wasted so are lives. The crime rate in the ghetto is nearly twice as high as the crime rates in suburban areas. People are killing each other and stealing from one another because they think that it could help make their lives easier, when in reality they are really making it easier for restrictions to be placed on them. All the crime and destruction only makes the property value in these areas decrease. People are being jailed and this is good news to the government because they profit on the people in these areas are being incarcerated .

Political issues today are the talk of every town. The government talks everyone into voting for the best candidate
