Books and Mankind

Are books important? Or better yet, have books been important to mankind?  That might possibly be the easiest question I’ve ever faced. The answer is simply and without a doubt, yes. Any person who tends to argue otherwise has something fundamentally wrong with them. Picking out just 3 uses of books is very difficult.  But through long hours of contemplation, I’ve narrowed them down. I’ll be going into detail into them down below.

Let’s start simple, shall we? Entertainment. Books are very vital for entertainment. I myself spend hours of my leisure time reading various fictional books. I prefer fantasy and young adult, but there are a lot more other genre’s that other people might prefer. Whatever your interests may be, you’ll find a book written about it.

Another use of books is that it is one of the basic sources we go to whenever we need to learn something. There are books written about every subject available. Whatever you may need to learn, you can gain the knowledge you need from books. Society has understood this and implements books very well, which can be seen from the use of books in school.

One use of books that I find very important is that books are immortal. By that I mean, through books, the word of the author is forever immortalized in the form of books. They might have written it centuries before we were born and yet we can still read their words as if they were just written. We can live the lives of people long dead through books.  We can learn the course of certain events that we would have otherwise not known without a first-hand account through books.  Because of books, we have been able to gain information about times very well past. The hands of time don’t lay a finger on books.  Books are timeless and because of that they are immortal.
