An inner journey is a journey of the mind and spirit where one experiences development of self through experiences that challenge our thinking and our beliefs. With Empire of the Sun and Raw we have two characters moving in different directions.
In Empire of the Sun a little boy named Jim is a wealthy English boy who lives in Shanghai, China. Jim lives in a nice house with his parents and servants to do the house work. Japan invades China and Jim gets separated from his parents. With no where to go Jim wonders around not knowing what to do. Jim eventually runs into Besie an American. They get captured by the Japanese and taken to a detention centre where they have barely any food. At this point Jim has already had some massive changes to his life.
Jim has gone from a rich and wealthy boy where everything is done for him to being captured and put into a detention centre. Jim and Besie get moved to a small camp near an airbase where the conditions are better. Besie teaches Jim how to survive in these times. Jim looks up to Besie for Guidant’s and Besie looks after him teaching Jim how to steal and stay alive in tough situations in the camp.
Raw is an opposite story to Empire of the Sun. Brett is starts in a rehab centre (the farm) because he broke into bottle shop and stolen some money. While Brett is in the farm he finds himself in a place where there are people who have done some bad things like him. The owner of the farm is Sam who tries to help Brett in his struggle to get back to normal life as a normal person. On his journey Brett tries to get along with the other people but always screws up and ends up on getting in more trouble.
Brett runs away from the farm and ends up getting all of his supplies taken away from him and on his way back to the farm for a second chance. Brett learns that he can not always fight his way through life and do it his way, he has to listen to other people
