ÐŽ§How to Keep a Drink WarmÐŽÐ
Aim
To carefully research insulation and investigate the effect of insulation and keeping the drinks warm, find a good insulater.
How to keep the drinks warmer
Instead of using
hot choclate we are going to use water instead because it is easer to use and hotchoclate is made mainly from water. Also instead of using
a mug we are going to use a copper beaker, to find what is the best insulter to put round a mug/cup.
Key Factors
I will use 5 different
materials and these will be : cotton, Jiffy Bag, Polystyrene, Foil, Buble Wrap, Poythene and i will also use non insultion. When i am doing the experiment I will change and keep things the same:
Keep the Same
„± Volume of Liquid (cm3) - so it is a balenced fair test,
„± Inishal Tempreture (c) - so that they cannot
react faster or slower
„± Area of material used ÐŽV so it is equal
„± Surface area - so that the tests are the same and fair and so one dose not have an advantage
„± Same container ÐŽV so it is same material and will be fair
„± Temperature interval (1 minute) so you can tell which insulter is the best by look at the time and temperture.
Change
„± Material (5 different
ones) ÐŽV change them each time so we can see the best insulater.
Equipment List
„± Thermometer ÐŽV to tell the tempreture of the water. (c)
„± Stopwatch ÐŽV to check and see how many minutes and seconds have passed.
„± Retort Stand ÐŽV to hold and serport the other equipment.
„± Differnt materials ÐŽV to insulater the copper cup, to see what is the best insalter is.
„± Mesuring cilinder ÐŽV see the amount of water we are using (mm3)
„± Copper Beaker ÐŽV To hold the liquid (hot water) and wrap insultion around it.

Method
„± Set up equpiment
„± Place tin beaker sercurly in the retort stand
„± Put in safety
gogles and apron
„± Mesure out 100m3 of boiling water into the tin beaker
„± Place the thermomenter in the tin beaker
„± See what the tempreture rises to
„± After 1 min take the tempreture again
„± Note down each temprteure until
the tempreture starts to recures more then 2 times
„± After compleating the first part of the experiment do it another two times for fair results
„± Refill the water again (1000m3)
„± And do exsactly the same
„± Then take the copper beaker and wrape it in your first insulter and do excalty the sam another 3 times
„± Jot down all the times and tempreture
„± Pack all the equipment away
„± Then share your relsuts with the other peoples in the class
„± Make a graph and a table with all the results.
Prediction
I think that the best insulter will be buble wrap because, bubble wrap has small air pockets which holds heat, and also plastic heats up quicker. So i think this will be the best insluter. Also because it is thicker so that it is harder for the heat particals to pass throought as quick, and many insulters like buble wrap contain tiny pockets of traped air to stop heat being conduacted for example : wool feals warm because
it traps a lot of air. The air trapped in and betwean out clouths and blankets keeps us warm, just like the buble wrap keeping the copper tin warm. Air trapped in fur and feathers keep animals warm in winter, and birds ÐŽ§fluff up their feathers to trap more air. So anything with air particales should keep wormer for longer.
