Career Basics
• Work with companies that are engaged in international trade or government agencies. Planning, facilitating, and implementing the exporting/importing of goods or services to/from foreign countries.
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration or international business with minor in foreign language. MBA in international business would be an asset but is not required. Person should be self-motivated, should like people and languages, leadership, must work flexible hours, and entertain foreign clients.
• Business administration or international business with minor in foreign language.
• Employment outlook is good. International trade is expanding at a rate of 5% per year. Foreign companies now advertise for American students graduating in international business.
• Usually more than 40 hours per week in private sector, plus time after work to entertain clients, meetings, etc. For government it’s about 40 hours a week.
• Average salary about $70,000 a year with bonuses for private sector. For government about $65,000.
• International banker, international market researcher, etc.

People with personality type ENFP, live a creative life full of exciting, adventure, and possibilities (Introduction to Type, pg. 21). I think that this sort of characteristic fits well with the job if International Trade Specialist. One needs to be adventurous and look forward to exciting possibilities do to travel opportunities, and working closely with others. Also, ENFPs are good at understanding how people and groups work and they are also very adaptable (Introduction to Type, pg. 21). It is important to have these characteristics for this job because it requires experiencing different people and cultures. It is crucial to have the ability to adapt in order to thrive in this field. Being an ENFP, I feel that this job would work well with my personality. The only part of my personality that does not fit into this career is the desire to seek affirmation; there are not many opportunities for that although that characteristic should be furnished in other aspects of life.
There are many skills and tasks that I would enjoy in doing this job. I would love to generate ideas, analyze, observe other cultures and people, make decisions, initiate change and also motivate others as well as myself. I wouldn’t like so much to supervise others, even though this skill might be required for this job. Skills that I would need to develop are actually use more would be as I said supervising, dealing with feelings, and overall friendliness with strangers. It is not that I don’t have these skills; it is that I would rather not use them.
