A-Plan of Internal Investigation
*Why had Norway been important during World War 2?
The Goal of Achievement in this investigation is to asses the factors that led to , the Attack of Norway by Nazi-Germany during the beginning of world war 2 . Some of the big topics that will appear in this Essay will be , the attack on Norway, further it will discuss Norway’s very small resistance, the involvement of British Troops in Norway , Germanys interest in total of Norway, and what Norway was supposed to be used to . The evidence in total is mostly different books and several Secondary sources.
The Primary book sources that have been used are “ Norges Verste Dager under 2 verdenskrig. “ or “ Tyskland Okkupasjonen ” by Kristian Holme. As well as “Norways defeat under the attacks in Rjukan, Telemark” by Erik Torgersen.
B-Evaluation of Evidence
As in 1939 Germany had captured Poland, Hitler’s and his NAZI government where looking after a second frontier where they could install themselves , as the war had more or less died down as neither Nazi Germany or the Allies consisting of the France, Britain and The United States both the Allies and Germany found Norway as an interesting point for Operations. The Allied had believed that gaining control of Norway would be a way of controlling the Iron Ore Fields in Northern Sweden, and the many heavy water stations that could be used in order to create and further develop Nuclear weapons, however the German commanders had a different point of view with concern on Norway, it wanted to have Norway as a base for its Naval fleet that had direct see-way to Britain and further the United States.
After days and weeks of thinking an clear goal appeared clearly from the Allies where they were planning on attacking the North of Norway with the British Naval Fleet on the City of BodÐ"¶ in order to capture the Iron Ore Fields in Northern Sweden , that would be very important of the further development of the Allies Artillery and the planning became an reality on April 8th where the Northern Part surrendered without any resistance however capturing Norway had never been the Allies Goal , And without the Allies knowledge Germany had planned an attack simultaneously which was called “Operation WiesenbÐ"јrg”
The Invasion officially occurred on April 8th 1940 by that the Allied forces went into BodÐ"¶ In order to reach the Iron ore fields near Kiruna, Sweden .
The day after on April 9th 1940 Germany was preparing and full invasion on the bigger cities Oslo, Bergen , Trondheim, Kristiansand and Stavanger all southern cities as Germany had understood that the Northern Part would be under the Allied control. All Cities had been under German Control on the stroke of midnight except the Cities of Kristiansand and the capital Oslo In Kristiansand the local military force managed the control fully and maid the Norwegian People and Government gain time as the local force shot down several German boats with Canons. And The Local Kristiansand Force had to surrender at 10AM on April 9th 1940 as they became outnumbered.
The Oslo Attack became heavily delayed as Germany’s best and heaviest artillery carriage “BlÐ"јcher” was shot down by Norway’s army which of delayed the attack on Oslo for quite a while as BlÐ"јcher sank and several assistant boats turned around and went back.
In Add to the Invasion on see Germany had planned a Air operation where the most important airfields in Norway Oslo, by Fornebu and Sola, Stavanger was totally eliminated .
The initial mobilization order decided by the government early in the morning of the 9th of April called only for a partial mobilization,
