Is health and pesticides a dangerous combination?

Did you know that pesticides are bad for your health? Pesticides can cause several different health issues that can be dangerous. Some chemicals have been found to cause major effects to the nervous, and immune system, after being exposed for a long period. Cancer, infertility/miscarriage, and mental retardation are among the list of side effects that are linked to pesticides.

Children seem to be more prone to getting cancer when exposed to certain pesticides for an extended time. Childhood brain cancer is slowly being increased by 10 percent every year. Our genetic structure has not changed enough to make it affect our health when being exposed to pesticides. Phenoxy herbicides, triazines, arsenicals are a few toxins, in pesticides that have been studied and found to play a role in causing Cancer.

Toxins in pesticides have been shown to be one of the reasons that many men and women have become infertile, and women having miscarriages. Women living near or around crops have had an increase of 40 to 120 percent of having a miscarriage. Kepone; DBCP; and ethylene dibromide are restricted because of the proven result of making the sperm count lower. Some pesticides cause endometriosis which can make women infertile, or make it harder to conceive.

Mental retardation is a neurological disorder that studies have shown to be caused by environmental contaminants such as lead. Women who have been exposed to high levels of mercury during pregnancy have a higher risk of getting a child who is mentally retarded. Children exposed to chemicals as an infant have been diagnosed with several neurological deficits. Such chemicals are; lead, mercury, chlorinated dibenzofurans, and many more.

Everyone seems to think that by putting lawn/house chemicals in a safe place that their children are safe from harm. It seems that no matter what you do to protect your children or yourself, you have a risk of getting health problems
