Is Technology Really Bad
As we advance more and more throughout the years, so does technology. Technology is becoming more advanced than ever, and some people are even saying that technology is becoming so advanced that it might be too much for our generation to handle. As technology advances, we need to handle it with more responsibility and not let it control every aspect of our lives. Technology is essentially always enhancing and improving and I feel that the steady growth and acceleration of technology is going to harm our generation.
When I grew up as a young boy I never really had many electronics to play with. I did not have a TV I could watch whenever I wanted to, or a game system I could play with when I was bored. Instead, I used to play with my friends outside all day until the streetlights came on. I had a daily routine: wake up, eat breakfast, and go play. My parents never had a problem about me going to play outside because they encouraged me to get out and go play, especially since we weren’t fortunate enough to have technology to rely on to keep us entertained during down time. As I got older we began to be able to afford more technology in the house, but my family wasn’t really big on relying on it too much. We would only watch a certain amount of TV a day and only spent a certain amount of time playing video games. As I compare my childhood to my younger brother’s current childhood, I see how much technology actually has affected people’s social life. Now, instead of my brother going outside and playing with his friends, they get on their game systems and play together online. They can even see each other online as they play together. Technology advances were meant to make people’s lives easier, but to me, I feel like people are taking advantage of them rather than using them to help assist in everyday life.
Some technological advances have actually helped make life easier such cell phone, GPS, or even TV. I feel like it all depends on how you use these devices which determines if they’re harming or improving your everyday life. For instance, take the cell phone. It makes communication with each other much easier than actually having to talk to someone. You can get in contact with people instantly through text message or a voice call. I think that people are taking advantage of this power though. One day my friend was coming to pick me up so we could go to the gym. Instead of him coming to the door and ringing the doorbell, he texted me saying come outside. This made me think was it really too hard to get out of the car and ring the doorbell? Was it too much to walk? People are relying on technology to make up some tasks that they don’t want to do, and this is a big problem.
