By far the most hilarious story I have ever read. In Italy, the high court ruled that men are no longer allowed to touch their genitals through their clothing in public. The defendant stated that it was due to his overalls and the discomfort they caused, but seriously, who wears overalls as everyday clothing? The court ruled that this "has to be regarded as an act contrary to public decency, a concept including the nexus of socio-ethical behavior rules requiring everyone to abstain from conduct potentially offensive to collectively held feelings of decorum", so in short, if it disgusts some people, don't do it!
Now I'm sure we can all agree that touching yourself in public s definitely not a social norm, but is it that bad to have to take lawful action and present a case ruling preventing it from ever happening again? I think not. Most human beings have the courtesy of performing this re-adjustment discreetly and those that don't get a reaction from everyday people that shows their disgust which should cause some sort of embarrassment within the individual thus preventing him from doing this again. The court claims that this "crotch grabbing" is something programmed into Italian culture as tradition for warding off bad luck. Seriously, warding off bad luck by touching yourself down there, are you kidding me? This entire story seems to leave me in total disbelief at the waste of taxpayer money and time used to deal with something that's always been a part of society, and something that the most tasteless people do (but in all honesty, I do it on occasion when I'm uncomfortable, but I do it discreetly.
All in all, the judge suggested that if it must be doen, than Italian men can wait until they get home to do it. So, the next time your in Italy, don't touch yourself otherwise you ignorant American will be left to the wrath of the ridiculous Italian Legal System.
