Jackson Browne’s song “stay/load out” is a personal song that contains deep message that Browne wishes to pass on to his fans. His message being a universal, can be expanded to his fellow musicians and their fans across the world as well that love music and “the life” (live performances). This is a stirring song because the lyrics are true. Jackson Browne openly expresses his love of music and all that he goes through to have that special connection with his fans when he steps out on to each stage. The moment that he hears the crown and see all the lights go up he recalls the real reason why they are there (for the love of playing music and doing what he loves). Jackson Browne wants to shows us how important it is for him to play; he explains how all the time spent traveling from town to town, passing time away in the hotel room, and waiting backstage is long compared to the brief moment they get to play on stage.
This song has brought me to appreciate music of all kinds even more through Jackson Browne’s lyrics. When I initially heard the song I did not like it because I felt that this song was just some old song with the artist just rambling on. Once I had really listened to this song and paid attention to the lyrics I came to like it. I felt that I was at his concert and he was speaking out to “stay, just a little bit longer” and help him continue to do what he loves.
I felt that Jackson Browne’s love in playing music was so genuine, because I felt that it was a bit of a confession. It was a confession that he still has that special love of playing music even though the music culture today seems to be done for fame and money. It was genuine because of the truth and honesty within his lyrics which allows everyone to relate to this song.
