James Brown
James Joseph Brown, born May 3rd 1933 in a little town of Barnwell California. He was known as the “Godfather of Soul” he also was a very prolific singer, songwriter, as well one of the most iconic figures in rock & roll back then as well in today’s music. He was a huge influence on artist at the time and also today.
His first big life changing memory was when Brown was sent to Augusta, Georgia to live with his aunt. His determination was strong, for wanting to make it and be somebody. As a young boy from shining shoes, to picking cotton, and washing cars he was determined to get rich or die trying. From getting kicked out of school at 12 for not wearing the right amount of clothing, he stuck to his various amount of jobs to take care of himself and his family. While growing up black in a rural area the world today is hard enough back then it was close to impossible, he kept himself away from harm by involving himself in religion and gospel music and singing in the choir at his church. However as an teenager at 16 he turned to crime.
His first big hit was “Please Please Please” by the Flames. Soon after getting the recorded deal the band slowly started to fall off and needed a new hit so they didn’t lose the record deal. So Brown went to New york where he would work with various other artist, where he came out with several new hits to boost jump his career. James brown was important to many different genres on music but most important he set the tone for other folk and soul singers for rock & roll. He led the way to a amazing and beautiful style of music that changed the music show-bizz forever.
